JOHANNESBURG - The newly-formed political party Build One South Africa (BOSA) party said it is targeting one million votes in the upcoming general elections.
 
On Thursday BOSA, under the leadership of Mmusi Maimane submitted 140,000 signatures of registered voters to the Independent Electoral Commission offices in Centurion.
 
The party said it now meets the threshold to contest nationally and in all provinces.
 
BOSA said it has already proved critics wrong by getting 140,000 signatures, which is more than double the required number new political parties, need to contest the elections.

Maimane said in a country where many people have fallen victim to scams, the fact that many voters have trusted the organisation with their ID numbers and signatures shows their belief in the party.
 
"You must know that if we are able to get these signatures in the start now, wait until we arrive on election day, we will show South Africans who are committed to vote for BOSA."
 
Maimane said BOSA wants to be a pivotal member of the new coalition government as its polling data shows no party will get a 50 plus one majority.
