Getting your drivers licence is an exciting time in any young person’s life and many of them will be itching to get behind the wheel and onto the open road.
However, budget often does not allow them to fulfill their dream of driving off into the sunset.
Thankfully, there are plenty of budget friendly second-hand cars that are perfect for a new driver.
Page says that Suzuki as a brand is a good entry level choice with a number of models to choose from that are perfect for young drivers, such as the Swift and the S-presso.
“The Swift is always a winner, definitely near the top of the list for new drivers.”

In addition to this, the Hyundai Atos has a great infotainment system, and costs just under R200 000 for a 2022 model.
If you want a more premium car for a similar price, a 2017 Polo Hatch is a good option.
“Five years to six years is a good period to look at a car… you can find one with low milage.”

At a lower budget, Page says you can find a 2016 Ford Figo, which is a perfect little runaround car, for under R150 000 or a 2017 Kia Picanto for as little at R110 000.
