KZN ANC says Nathi Nhleko's resignation from party long overdue: ‘It's good riddance’
He said he no longer recognised the ANC as the organisation he joined as a youngster, decrying a departure from the party’s economic policies and apparent reduced State influence, among many other issues.

JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal says former Minister of Police Nathi Nhleko's resignation from the governing party is long overdue.
He sent a seven-page long letter to the national office and his regional province of KwaZulu-Natal, blaming ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula for sparking his decision to call it quits.

Earlier in 2024, Mbalula remarked that some lost their careers in government for lying about security upgrades at Jacob Zuma's Nkandla homestead to protect the former president.
In 2015, Nhleko attempted to justify to the National Assembly why a swimming pool at Zuma's home was upgraded into what he called a "fire pool”.
Nhleko described the criticism Mbalula levelled against him as a demonstration of the bankruptcy, lunacy and defunct thinking of the ANC secretary-general.
He said he no longer recognised the ANC as the organisation he joined as a youngster, decrying a departure from the party’s economic policies and apparent reduced State influence, among many other issues.
While Nhleko painted himself in glory and listed his accolades, KwaZulu-Natal ANC secretary Bheki Mtolo simply said this: “It's good riddance, it's long overdue”.
Mtolo said Nhleko killed his own career when he labelled something as basic as a swimming pool a "fire pool”.
“If you shoot yourself in the foot, you can't blame the ANC.”
Nhleko - besides being implicated in numerous scandals including attempts to cover up the Nkandla saga, the appointment of discredited former top cop Bening Ntlemeza, and allegedly dishing out taxpayers' money to his former partners - insisted his record of service to the nation is impeccable.
