JOHANNESBURG - The Public Utility Transport Corporation (PUTCO) said a memorandum of demands by union National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) related to the suspension of the bus company's employees is riddled with unfounded allegations.
This relates to the suspension of 120 employees after an unprotected wage strike in 2022.
The workers were charged with gross misconduct after the industrial action.
NUMSA has accused PUTCO of trying to deny its members the right to present their case at the Commission Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration among other related issues.
Moreover, NUMSA threatened to take the matter to the Labour Court.
PUTCO spokesperson Lindokuhle Xulu said the company is ready to defend itself.
"PUTCO refutes all these unfounded allegations and welcomes NUMSA’s decision to approach the Labour Court. The company looks forward to defending the truth against the union’s peddled lies."
