JOHANNESBURG - Police have confirmed that the gruesome shooting of three people in Braamfontein is linked to taxi violence.

Gauteng's newly-appointed top cop Tommy Mthombeni brought this to light on Friday.

He was delivering his maiden speech as the province's new police commissioner at the South Africa Police Service headquarters in Parktown.

Mthombeni said preliminary investigations revealed that the harrowing attack, which left three people dead and one fighting for their life in hospital, after two unknown gunmen opened fire in a brazen shooting on Thursday, was related to taxi industry conflict.
