CAPE TOWN - The High Court of South Africa in George has convicted Timothy Ova for the murders of two nine-year-old girls Sharon Arries and Jacorene Vaaltyn and the illegal possession of ammunition, attempt to defeat justice as well as indecent assault.

National Prosecuting Authority Spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said Ova will be sentenced for the crimes in April.

The two girls were murdered after they were last seen playing in front of Ova’s yard in Theronsville, Albertinia in September 2022.

Ntabazalila said witnesses testified that they had asked the girls to go with them, but they said they were waiting for Ova as he promised them sweets and money. The girls' bodies were later found inside Ova's house.

"The court convicted Ova for the murders. Their bodies were discovered inside his house after he smothered them in the sand."
