JOHANNESBURG - The family of a four-year-old girl who was discovered in a suitcase after an attempted kidnapping, is battling to come to terms with the way their child died.

Keeya Mbulawa was allegedly drugged by a neighbour in Protea Glen, Soweto who then placed her in a bag.

The girl was taken to hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The accused Nonhle Matsebula appeared in the court on Friday where she was charged with premeditated murder and kidnapping

Community members hurled insults at Matsebula as she stood in the dock covering her face.

Her lawyer told the court that her client indicated that she planned to abandon her bail application.

Matsebula was spotted by a resident in Protea Glen after evading police for a month who recounted what happened.

"I told the guy there is something dodgy about this lady. Immediately I said I think I know you. You are Nonhle, then she was like no I never killed Keeya, it was not me."

Family Representative Advocate Miller Moela said the young girl died in hospital, four days after the ordeal.

"There was a sock stuffed in her mouth, there was a cable tie around her neck, she was kept in that bag for no less than 30 minutes and it was zipped so she could not breathe."

The case was postponed to next month.
