JOHANNESBURG - Ekurhuleni council chief whip Jongizizwe Dlabathi has said that a meeting with party leaders will be convened to map a way forward after yet another council sitting collapsed on Thursday night.
Violence broke out between Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and African National Congress (ANC) councillors ahead of the session hearing arguments for and against the removal of Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana.
The motion to have him ousted was brought forward by ActionSA and has since been endorsed by the ANC which begrudgingly worked with the EFF to elect him as mayor in 2023.
However, the ANC in Ekurhuleni has been calling on its provincial and national leaders to walk away from this arrangement. It's expressed unhappiness over the composition of the mayoral committee and claims the current agreement doesn’t serve its supporters.

Dlabathi said the meeting with party leaders would address the conduct of councillors and the vote of no confidence in the mayor.
"With regards to the meeting with the speaker, it is the entire multi-party, all political parties represented will meet with the speaker of council. We will reflect on what transpired but express our discontent about how the matter could have been handled," said Dlabathi.
