JOHANNESBURG - The ANC’s parliamentary caucus has condemned what it calls misinformation being peddled against Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.
The party has also distanced Public Enterprises Committee Chairperson Khaya Magaxa from any letters criticising Gordhan over the South African Airways (SAA) private equity sale to the Takatso Consortium.
The ANC caucus statement follows clashes between members of the public enterprises committee and Gordhan this week on requests to discuss the deal behind closed doors.
The UDM leader this week wrote a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa calling for Gordhan to be fired.
The ANC says this letter, with a parliament letterhead has been falsely attributed to Public Enterprises Committee Chairperson Khaya Magaxa.
The party also affirmed its confidence in Gordhan
On Thursday Gordhan accused the public enterprises committee of distorting discussions on the majority sale of SAA.
Gordhan denied avoiding accountability saying National Assembly rules made provisions for holding meetings in camera if they are confidential and sensitive in nature.
