Sweltering weather warning issued for Cape Winelands and surrounds

CAPE TOWN - Very hot temperatures are predicted, and a red fire index warning has been issued for the Cape Winelands and surrounds.
The weather office has forecast temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius for the next 48 hours.

The municipality flagged concerns about heatstrokes, dehydration and the increasing risk of wildfires.
Between January and February, the Cape Winelands experienced about 18 consecutive days of wildfires.
“In this heat, dehydration and/or heatstroke pose the biggest threat to people. It is vital that one stays hydrated,” said the municipality's Anesca Roodt.
“Please, also make sure that animals have shade and also a lot of fresh water.”
