The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has expressed its approval of President Cyril Ramaphosa's declaration of the date for the 2024 National and Provincial Elections as 29 May.

In accordance with section 17(2) of the Electoral Act 73 of 1998, the President has consulted with the IEC regarding the election date.

As of February 24th, the IEC has reported that the number of registered voters has exceeded 27 million.

With the announcement of the election date, parties will commence the submission of their nominations and accompanying documents. The deadline for this process is 8 March.

From today until 4 March, the voter roll will be available for inspection, and individuals wishing to raise objections regarding the roll have until 4 March to do so.

For those opting for a special vote, applications can be made between 15 April and 3 May, with voting scheduled for 27 and 28 May 2024.

For citizens residing abroad and intending to vote at the Embassy, notification to the IEC must be made by 27 April.
