JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress has again defended its controversial cadre deployment policy as it continues to face harsh criticism for appointments in government departments.
The ANC recently handed over meeting minutes and other documents relating to cadre deployment to the the DA following a ruling by the Constitutional Court.
While the DA has failed to have the policy declared unconstitutional by the courts the opposition party has refused to back down from the protracted battle.
In the ANC’s election manifesto, which was launched on Saturday in Durban, it said there is nothing wrong with cadre deployment as parties are elected to government to implement their vision.
ANC senior member, Mmamoloko Kubayi says the party cannot put people into strategic positions of government that are not aligned to its vision.
“We are now saying to this public, this is our manifesto so are you going to get a DA person who doesn’t believe in transformation to come and run transformation, it’s not possible. So you got to to have people who understand this mandate ideologically who knows it’s the mandate of the public, given to the ruling party to implement it without reservations,” said Kubayi.
