Long-time activist Hydeia Broadbent has passed away at the age of 39.

She rose to fame for being a child living with HIV and Aids.

Her father Loren Broadbent announced her passing on Facebook.

“Despite facing numerous challenges throughout her life, Hydeia remained determined to spread hope and positivity through education around HIV/AIDS,” he wrote alongside a photo of her.

Her journey of activism began at a young age.

She was reportedly abandoned as an infant at the University Medical Centre of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, where she was later adopted.

She was diagnosed as HIV-positive at the age of three, although it was presumed that she had the illness since birth.

Her parents were told that she would not live past the age of five.
