Eastern Cape EFF won't apologise for altercation with security personnel during SOPA

JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Eastern Cape said they won’t apologise for the physical altercation with security personnel during the State of the Province Address(SOPA).

Moments before Premier Oscar Mabuyane delivered his speech on Thursday, a violent altercation between EFF MPL's and security guards ensued.

This resulted in the red berets being chased out of the provincial legislature ahead of Mabuyane's SOPA.

Similar scenes played out in Gauteng last week when the red berets clashed with crime prevention wardens - now informally known as amaPanyaza.

EFF provincial leader Zilindile Vena said there's a concerted effort to tarnish the organisation's name.

"We can’t apologise for something that we don't get, apologise for what? We were suffocated, we were suffocated and suppressed."

The EFF was recently prohibited from attending the State of the Nation Address in Parliament following last year's altercation, wherein they stormed the stage while President Cyril Ramaphosa was delivering his speech.
