Budget 2024: Treasury allocates extra R2.3bn to IEC to carry out its work

CAPE TOWN - With the general elections set down for 29 May, Treasury will give the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) an extra R2.3 billion to carry out its work.
Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana made the announcement during his budget speech on Wednesday.

Godongwana said money had also been set aside for the deployment of law enforcement agencies over the elections period.
"They are allocated an additional R250 million to support the elections. A further R200 million will be allocated for political party funding as they prepare for the general elections."
