CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police are appealing for anyone with information on the whereabouts of a missing six-year-old, Joshlin Smith, in Saldanha Bay.

According to police, the child was reported missing by her mother on Tuesday.

She was last seen near the Diazville clinic on Monday afternoon.

Joshlin's mother, Kelly, said she got worried when she returned home from work and her daughter wasn't there.

The mother told police she left her child with her boyfriend on Monday because the little girl wasn't feeling well and didn't go to school.

But when questioned about the child's whereabouts, her boyfriend could not account.

"They talked to people and they said they saw Joshlin at about 7 or 8 o'clock in our area, they saw her walking with a boy, a small boy, but we don't know who that boy is, we're still searching for that boy so that he can tell us what happened to my daughter."

The community has joined police searches for the six-year-old in the West Coast and surrounds.

"The police have been working with me since the time I called them and told them about my daughter that was missing. They even called me this morning... we must go to the police station, we have a search party at 9 o'clock."

At the time of her disappearance, Joshlin was wearing a blue and white T-shirt and denim shorts.

Her mother says she has a birthmark on her upper right arm.
