JOHANNESBURG - An Ekurhuleni teacher has been arrested and appeared in court for allegedly being in possession of drugs on school grounds.
The Gauteng Education Department said the incident took place at the Thoko Thaba Secondary School last week.
It is understood that while the incident took place last week, it was only reported to the department on Wednesday following a protest by community members over the matter.
The department says an investigation is under way and the teacher has been removed from the school as a precautionary measure.
"We are disappointed about this incident, and vehemently condemn such conduct and we will be acting against it accordingly. We also plead with the community to allow this matter to be handled by the department and relevant law enforcement authorities for appropriate resolution,” said MEC Chiloane's spokesperson Xolani Mkhwente.
