JOHANNESBURG - Opposition political parties said that Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi made another batch of unrealistic promises during his State of the Province Address (SOPA).

Some of Lesufi's goals include 40,000 new temporary training jobs for unemployed young people, as well as purchasing and upgrading 18 existing hospitals.

Lesufi delivered his final SOPA speech for the province’s sixth administration at Nasrec on Friday.

Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng leader, Solly Msimanga, said the speech was similar to the one he made in 2023 because he had not fulfilled his previous promises.

"Last year, we were told that the panic buttons, within three months of the announcement, the system will be up and running. Now we are told that by April we will start the process of rolling it out. Who is fooling who here."

Meanwhile, Rise Mzansi's Vuyisa Ramakgopa said: "It's very problematic to me that we have entered an era where it is important to do PR and propaganda than actually deliver.

"Let’s talk about jobs as well - we have 2.2 million young people that are not in employment, education, and training. The premier is unable to provide any plan or guidance about how we're going to fix structural issues of transformation."
