CoCT's Old Granary building officially renamed after Desmond and Leah Tutu
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said the history of the building was fitting to preserve the legacy of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

CAPE TOWN - City of Cape Town Mayor Geordin-Hill Lewis has lauded the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation for playing a significant role in speaking up against injustice.
Hill-Lewis was speaking at the renaming ceremony of The Old Granary building at Buitenkant Street in District Six on Tuesday.
The building has been renamed to the Desmond & Leah Tutu House.
The 200-year-old historical structure has been previously used as a bakery, a jail for women, a customs house, a police station, a court, and most recently a public works office.
The mayor said the history of the building is fitting to preserve the legacy of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Chairperson of the Desmond Tutu IP Trust, Dr Mamphela Ramphele who was also present at the ceremony had this to say: "The Desmond & Leah Tutu house will be hosting two institutions that are celebrating his legacy. The foundation which has programmes that we are outward facing, annual peace lecture, programs for children and of course mounting exhibitions."
