JOHANNESBURG - North West Premier Busy Maape will not deliver his 2024 State of the Province Address (SOPA)  with his office saying all is in place for acting Premier Nono Maloyi to deliver the report before the legislature on Tuesday.

Maape has spent close to six months on sick leave, only to return to the office for a short while last month before heading to Thailand for further medical treatment.

The African National Congress Youth League called for the premier to be recused, claiming it didn’t feel comfortable with Maape  who is battling ill health  delivering the SOPA.

Maloyi is expected to give an update on the province’s investment drive progress on fixing the roads and water infrastructure.

Moreover, all eyes are on him to announce several mega projects as well.

"The premier is undergoing continued medical attention, and he then deemed it fit that during this period MEC Nono Maloyi steps in to deliver the State of the Province Address(SOPA).  The premier also feels that it's only fair for MEC Nono Maloyi to do this particular SOPA because he has been holding the fort as acting premier for some time now," said the premier’s spokesperson Sello Tatai.
