Nongoma residents affected by heavy rain being assisted - KZN COGTA

CAPE TOWN - The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance said that over 600 people affected by severe thunderstorms and heavy rains in Nongoma were being assisted.
It is understood that 78 households and some schools were badly affected by floods last week on Friday.
Three homes were completely destroyed.
The department is urging residents in the area to avoid crossing overflowing rivers.
The department's spokesperson, Siboniso Mngadi, said that no injuries or fatalies were reported as a result of the inclement weather.
"The provincial disaster management teams have been conducting assessments in different areas of Nongoma to determine the extent of the damage caused by the inclement weather. Preliminary reports suggest that eight (8) wards were severely affected."
