JOHANNESBURG - Residents in the Johannesburg CBD have urged Rand Water to restore supply, as they’ve spent almost a month with dry taps.
The major supply interruption was caused by a power outage at the Hector Norris pump station.
While Rand Water said it was providing an alternative water supply, residents disputed this, claiming there were no water tankers.
Johannesburg Water said the pump station that supplied water to the inner city had been struggling with capacity, as the load shedding and prolonged power outages in the area affected pumping.
It said it had been using a generator at the station but continued to have challenges. This has left residents with low pressure or no water supply.
A resident, who spoke to Eyewitness News anonymously, said that Johannesburg Water failed to communicate when this would be resolved.
"There's no communication at all. They don't even reply to our tweets. For one month, no one replies to us."
She said if they failed to fix the situation immediately, they should at least provide the community with an alternative supply of water.
