CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will scrap all “race-based” legislation including Black Economic Empowerment should it be elected into government.
The party has, however, added that it wouldn’t get rid of social grants something the African National Congress(ANC) has accused it of planning should it ever come into power.
DA finance spokesperson Dion George presented the party’s alternative budget on Monday, ahead of Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s budget speech on Wednesday.
"The DA will scrap all race-based legislation and cadre deployment practices, and instead embrace a labour legislative framework which will pursue true non-racialism through economic empowerment of all who live in South Africa."

He said the DA would continue with rolling out social grants should it occupy the Union Buildings.
"We have already said we would guarantee the grants that are in place. But we believe they can be enhanced. The SRD can evolve into a job seeker grant. The child grant can increase."
