The fatal shootout ensued in Verulam – north of Durban after police intercepted the suspects’ vehicle.
According to authorities, they were both on a list of the most wanted notorious criminals in the area.
Police also revealed that the duo is also among 15 other suspects who attempted to kill tactical response team members during a foiled cash-in-transit robbery in Nkandla in 2019.
