JOHANNESBURG - Former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo said African National Congress (ANC) members, known as the Revolutionary Council owe South Africa the truth about his removal from office.
Mahumapelo took “early retirement” in 2018 following violent protests in the platinum province while some called for his resignation.
He has since become a Member of Parliament, however, he’s accused three members of the Revolutionary Council, Themba Gwabeni, Thato Magogodi and Lucky Kgabo of defamation and is seeking R10 million over what he’s termed irreparable harm to his reputation and dignity.
On Tuesday, the high court in Mahikeng dismissed the trio’s application for absolution.
Mahumapelo welcomed the development, arguing that the struggle to clear his name continues.
He said the three must be honest about their role in his removal from office.
“They knew that this is a concoction, because in the structures of the organisation they had no hold and no control in the structures, because they are not very active in the structures of the ANC, they wanted access to resources of the state,” Mahumapelo said.
