JOHANNESBURG - A spirited crowd has gathered at OR Tambo International Airport to welcome home the AFCON bronze-medal-winning Bafana Bafana squad.
The team touched down on home soil just after 5am on Wednesday morning.
A festive atmosphere enveloped the arrivals terminal as hundreds of supporters waited in anticipation of the Bafana squad.
Some supporters had been at OR Tambo International Airport since 10pm and slept there overnight so they could be at the venue to share in the festivities of the day.
The sizeable crowd, dressed predominantly in EFF colours, has been full of energy and song all morning and provided lively feeling ahead of Wednesday’s celebrations.
The team was due to land at 4am and there was a concern that it would be too early to attract a crowd, however, fans have descended on the airport in large numbers.
Dignitaries from the sports ministry and SAFA are expected to address the gathering later on Wednesday morning.
