JOHANNESBURG - Democratic Alliance (DA) federal chair Helen Zille said the party’s Constitutional Court win compelling the African National Congress (ANC) to make records relating to cadre deployment over the past decade public, was a massive victory for South Africa.
Speaking on the Clement Manyathela Show on 702 on Tuesday, Zille said that she was hoping that the records, dating back to January 2013, when President Cyril Ramaphosa became chairperson of the cadre deployment committee, would provide the truth.
"So, what we’re hoping to get out of those minutes and WhatsApp chats and everything that the court has insisted the ANC now release, is the truth. We hope the truth is not as bad as we think it may be. The full truth will tell us just how the ANC has subverted democracy."
When questioned as to whether she thought the court ruling was futile as the ANC may not provide any incriminating evidence, this was Zille’s response.
"A lot of people inside the ANC have those records and they are all fighting with each other now. They don't know what we know and they know what each other knows. And believe me, when there are minutes out there and people have those minutes, you better know that you cannot fool all of the people all of the time."
