JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng African National Congress (ANC) says it is in consultation with the national government over royalties and other issues facing artists.

The party said it was aware of the challenges facing actors, musicians, and the creative sector.

City Press recently reported that the SABC was restructuring its royalty system, which would see it paying less money to production houses for programme re-runs.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ANC's provincial lekgotla in Boksburg, the party's Gauteng Secretary Thembinkosi Nciza said the province was the creative hub of the country.

The former music executive said the party took seriously issues of the creative sector.

“Part of the discussions we are having is not only artists, but it is the creative arts. Because we need to take creative arts very seriously, and we need to give it support, and I can assure you our comrades in Gauteng understand the importance of giving that sector support.”
