Cooler weather conditions, following the issuing of a heatwave for Gauteng, to persist, bringing along with it chances of flooding in low-lying areas, strong winds, and hailstorms.

JOHANNESBURG - The South African Weather Service (SAWS) warned of wet and rainy conditions into the weekend.

On Monday, the office issued a heatwave warning which saw scorching temperatures gripping most parts Gauteng.

However, the cooler weather conditions, which kicked in Thursday afternoon, are expected to persist, bringing along with it chances of flooding in low-lying areas, strong winds, and hailstorms.

Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela said: "We have scattered isolated showers and thundershowers with the warning expected over Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal - western and central interior of the province - and some parts of the Free State province where we have a yellow level two warning for severe thunderstorms, which might result in some heavy rain, which might be resulting in flooding and also strong winds and a possibility of hail."
