TSHWANE - The City of Tshwane said it would continue to disconnect customers who were not paying their municipal bills and were not entering into payment arrangements.
This week alone, officials disconnected seventy residents from the city's electricity and water grid.
They said this was part of its Tshwane Ya Tima revenue collection operation.
In addition to these disconnections, the city also imposed fines on residents who were illegally connected to the grid.
The city's Finance MMC Jacqui Uys said revenue was needed to deliver services and to honour commitments to Eskom and Rand Water.
"As we intensify our revenue collection campaign, I wish to appeal to residential estate managers to allow city meter readers to do their job and not to block access."
The metro reiterated that revenue collection was necessary for the financial rescue of the city.
