Red carpet ceremonial splendour expected ahead of SONA

CAPE TOWN -The usual ceremonial splendour of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) is set to begin at 4pm on Thursday.
Outside of all the serious matters expected in the president’s address, all eyes are now on the red carpet for the glitz, glamour and pomp before the ceremony.
In recent years, the glamour of the red carpet has been more subdued.

But Parliament has promised this year’s event will not be holding back.
Coming in at a price tag of R6.5 million, this is the first of two SONAs.
This year marks the country’s 30 years of democracy and an election.
Various bands have been practising all afternoon, with the momentum expected to pick up in the next hour.
