CAPE TOWN - Communication Minister Mondli Gungubele has cited concern over financial and personnel constraints at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
The public broadcaster recently complained about high tariffs charged by signal distributor Sentech.
Gungubele was speaking ahead of the highly anticipated State of the Nation Address Thursday evening, saying the SABC cannot be found wanting ahead of the crucial election period.
He said plans were underway to resolve the issues.
“They have already submitted the turnaround strategy to the new board. We have already said commitments, we are going to the portfolio committee to present this notion that SABC is being turned around. It’s going to take time, but all we want to make sure is that once we go through the trajectory of positive direction - we must not be dislodged from that.”
