Sibiya pleaded with police to believe him about not being involved with Meyiwa murder, court told

JOHANNESBURG - The first man accused of murdering Senzo Meyiwa told the Pretoria High Court that he pleaded with police to believe him when he denied any involvement in the football star’s murder.
Muzi Sibiya has been testifying on the events around his arrest in May 2020.
While the State is in possession of a confession statement signed by Sibiya, he has denied ever making the statement - saying he was beaten and coerced into signing an already written statement.

In 2023, one of the investigators told the court that Sibiya offered the information on his involvement in Meyiwa’s murder, saying he knew the time would come when he would have to come clean.
But Sibiya has refuted this saying he told the lead investigator, Bongani Gininda, that he knew nothing about the football star’s murder.
Five men are standing trial for the football star's 2014 murder.
