JOHANNESBURG - Minister of Health Joe Phaahla said his department was working hard to find vacancies for unemployed doctors in the country.

Phaahla was briefing the media on the department's efforts to address unemployment in the sector, as at least 800 qualified doctors are without jobs.

Budget constraints were attributed as the reason for the alarming number of unemployed practitioners.

Phaahla said that over 200 posts had been advertised.

"As we speak now across provinces, we have already been able to find 239 posts which are already out there for the uptake. Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, and Free State have quite a number of those."
