Disaster teams on high alert after SA Weather Service issues thunderstorm, heavy rain warning for KZN

DURBAN - Residents in central parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) are warned to brace themselves for severe weather likely to cause damage on Monday evening.
Disaster teams are on high alert after the South African Weather Service sent out an alert Level 2 thunderstorm and heavy rain warning for the province.
The KZN Cooperative Governance Department has added that this may also result in localised flooding.
“The severe thunderstorms will begin just after midday throughout the evening. According to the South African Weather Service, scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over the central parts with the possibility of some of them becoming severe," said spokesperson Siboniso Mngadi.
He added that residents in rural areas should prepare for possible evacuation in case of emergency.
“In rural areas, residents living along riverbanks should be prepared to evacuate to higher ground if necessary.”
