JANE FURSE, Limpopo - Young people who’ve resorted to selling fruit and vegetables on the streets in Limpopo have vowed to abstain from voting as they remain without jobs 30 years into the country’s democracy.

Eyewitness News spoke to a group of fruit vendors, who ply their trade on the streets of Jane Furse right outside the voting station at Lehutjwana Secondary School.

A vast number youth in this area are without jobs despite having completed their studies.

"I am not happy. I need a job. I have matric," one of the vendors told Eyewitness News.

Others here have also given up on what they’ve termed a failing government as they sit on the side of the street playing seven-pop-eleven, a game of dice in which winning players bet R10 a round.

In this fast-paced game of chance, players bet on the outcome of rolling dice and the winner can score more than R100 if luck is on their side.

Eyewitness News spent some time with the group. They told us the money they make from playing this game brings some relief to their pockets.

"We are playing this game of dice because we are struggling," one of them said.

"Life is really hard for us. What else can we do?"

While some of these young people have registered to vote, many are simply refusing to participate.
