'I have nothing at all, but God is always there': Voters in Kimberley despondent as they mull who to vote for

Some young people said they could not see the purpose of voting as their living conditions continued to deteriorate, while others felt their participation could make a difference as they needed job opportunities to prosper.

KIMBERLEY - People in Greenpoint in Kimberley have mixed feelings about the upcoming elections.

Some of the residents were seen debating the need to vote as they sat under a tree on a street corner on Saturday.

Elsewhere, children and dogs were playing in gravel streets while goats fed on the tall grass near pavements.

Some young people said they could not see the purpose of voting as their living conditions continued to deteriorate.

But those who will vote, felt their participation could make a difference as they needed job opportunities to prosper. 

Residents also complained about the the lack of housing, sewage leaks and the accompanying mess in the gravel streets.

"I'm going to vote, to tell them I am sorry because I haven’t got nothing, nothing at all but God is always there," said resident Racael Tieties.

The widowed pensioner said she hoped by voting, the deteriorating water and sanitation infrastructure in Greenpoint would be upgraded.
