CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape High Court has heard how alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack tried to bribe high-ranking police officers Jeremy Vearey and Charl Kinnear.
Modack - along with 14 others - faces one hundred and 24 charges related to racketeering and murder - including the assassination of Kinnear.
Kinnear was gunned down in front of his house in Bishop Lavis in September 2020.
The case against Modack and his co-accused continued for a fourth day in the Western Cape High Court today.
Today the court heard how Modack allegedly employed the services of a middleman to develop a corrupt relationship with Vearey and Kinnear.
It is the state's case that in 2017, the anti-gang unit reported to Vearey - while Kinnear worked in the same unit as a lieutenant.
The state alleges members of the unit - led by Kinnear - seized firearms and ammunition from Modack's security guards in April 2017.
The State alleged Modack employed a middleman to bribe both Vearey and Kinnear to return the weapons.
The case has been postponed to Monday, the fifth of February for the state to provide the court with more information related to the charges.
