Mlambo-Ngcuka appointed to Mercedes-Benz South Africa board
Former Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka’s appointment follows the resignation of Nozipho January-Bardill last year.

JOHANNESBURG - Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz South Africa has appointed former deputy president and former United Nations official, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, to its board.
Mlambo-Ngcuka joins the board as a non-executive director.
The appointment takes effect as of Thursday for a period of three years.
Former Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka’s appointment follows the resignation of Nozipho January-Bardill last year.
Mlambo-Ngcuka will now head up the social ethics committee on the Mercedes-Benz SA board.
Following the announcement, board chair Wilfried Porth described the move to appoint Mlambo-Ngcuka as a win for the company.
Porth said that Mlambo-Ngcuka would bring a wealth of experience to the board, having excelled across the private and public sectors.
Porth added that her expertise would undoubtedly contribute to the corporate governance of Mercedes-Benz SA as the company navigated its automotive transformation.
Mlambo-Ngcuka served as the country’s deputy president from 2005 to 2008, among other political roles.
She’s also the former executive director of UN Women.
