Slain Rand Water exec Teboho Joala had a target on his back, says family

JOHANNESBURG - The family of slain Rand Water executive Teboho Joala said there was a target on his back.
Joala was killed in a brazen hit in full view of hundreds of primary school pupils at a donation event hosted by Rand Water at Zakariyya Park Civic Hall, south of Johannesburg.

His family said they have not engaged much with authorities but were awaiting the post-mortem results.
Liabo Setho, the sister-in-law of Joala, said he shielded his family from possible threats on his life.
“I can almost imagine that the reason Rand Water was giving him security detail is that maybe they knew that his life may have been at threat, and considering the violent nature of his death, clearly there was a target on his back.”
Eyewitness Mandisa Muruge said hundreds of children witnessed Joala’s brazen murder.
“The hall was packed, full of school learners as young as seven years old because it was from grade one to grade seven. Imagine a child as young as seven years old witnessing that kind of brutality.”
It’s understood a private investigator has been roped in to assist with the case.
