CAPE TOWN - A third day of firefighting between Pringle Bay and Betty's Bay in the Hangklip area and between die Damme and Pearly Beach in the Gansbaai area continues.

The crews spent most of Tuesday protecting structures and evacuating residents at risk.

Overstrand municipal manager, Dean O’Neill, said that while the evacuation had been lifted, residents must continue to be vigilant.

"The fire is still active, we are still busy actively fighting it, so although we have rolled back the evacuation, we have asked people to be vigilant - it's very unpredictable... a slight turn of the wind and the fire can turn as well."

The Overstrand District Municipality said an independent investigation would be launched to determine the cause of the devastating fires that have been raging in the region.

The blaze has caused some structural damage, including homes in Pringle Bay.
