CAPE TOWN - The wife of slain top cop, Charl Kinnear, said that the timing of the removal of her SAPS security detail was very strange.
On Monday, Nicolette Kinnear attended proceedings in the Western Cape High Court, where the alleged mastermind behind her husband's murder took to the stand, along with 14 other co-accused.
Kinnear's husband, who was commander of the Western Cape gang unit, was murdered in a hail of bullets outside his Bishop Lavis home in September 2020.
"For me, it was very weird. I got a visit from General Beaton about two weeks ago, telling me that they want to remove it on the 26th. I then told him well, how convenient you know - two days before court was set to start."
Kinnear said that the removal of her protection was related to a culpable homicide case she laid late last year against a number of police officers implicated in his murder.
"This is out-and-out a bullying tactic and intimidation tactic. They did the same to my husband because he wouldn't back down with his investigations and neither am I. I'm not going to have myself bullied."
Kinnear said she expected provincial and national police to intervene in the matter.
