JOHANNESBURG - Disturbing details have emerged about the brazen assassination of Rand Water executive Teboho Joala in front of hundreds of primary school learners.
An Eyewitness, Mandisa Muruge, was inside the civic hall at Zakariyya Park - in south of Joburg - when she said a gunman entered and fired several shots directly at Joala.
The incident occurred shortly after 9am on Monday during a back-to-school campaign by Rand Water and the local ward committee.

Joala was preparing to address hundreds of primary school pupils during a donation event.
"As the chairperson was preparing himself to speak a man came in and went straight to him and shot him several times and he died on the spot," recounted Muruge, adding that she could not exactly recall what the perpetrator wore.
"He was not covering his face; he was just wearing a hat."
Joala’s bodyguard was also shot and killed in the parking lot during an exchange of gunfire with the perpetrators.
'TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE FOR SCHOOL LEARNERS'
Muruge further noted that children at the venue were in distress.
They screamed, they ran for cover, they were running to get out of the door. Kids ran outside the hall into the streets, into the yards, they just wanted to run away from all of this. It was very traumatic for the kids," she detailed.
