CAPE TOWN - No arrests have yet been made in connection with the murder of a police officer and another man in Khayelitsha.

The 39-year-old SAPS member was off-duty when he and a friend were shot and killed in Site C on Friday night.

The motive for the killing is not yet known.

The officer's murder happened just hours before the SAPS marked National Police Day on Saturday.

Western Cape Community Safety and Police Oversight MEC Reagen Allen: "It is particularly sad that we had to lose another officer of the law in this manner. SAPS is currently seeking three unknown male suspects who escaped on foot. I urge those with information to make it available to all law enforcement agencies so that the perpetrators can be apprehended."
