JOHANNESBURG - Nchupetsang Attorneys has been revealed as the law firm appointed to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of  12-year-old Latoya Temilton.

Temilton drowned on a school excursion two weeks ago.

The grade seven Laerskool Queenswood pupil had been attending a one-day excursion at the Wag ‘n Bietjie resort in Witkoppen, Olifantsfontein.

The school allegedly asked pupils and Latoya’s parents to refrain from speaking publicly about the incident.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane, who visited the school to introduce the Nchupetsang Attorneys, said that the probe would seek to provide closure to the family.

"We need more answers around the pool, what happened in the pool, who didn’t do their work, who moved their eye from the children?"

Meshack Nchupetsang said they would present a report to the department within seven days.

"We are going to consult and interview all the learners who were involved, all the teachers, the principal, the SGB, the SMT, everyone who was involved in this regard."

Amongst other things, the report will also probe allegations that pupils were asked to retrieve Temilton’s body.
