DURBAN - Saturday marked the commemoration of the historic Battle of Isandlwana in Nquthu, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

The Battle of Isandlwana is part of a series of the Anglo-Zulu War fought between the Zulu and British armies in 1879, with 2024 marking 145 years since Zulu regiments defeated the British army.

The site of the battle has since become a historic landmark, where the commemoration is held annually.

Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini attended the commemoration, where he appointed a new Zulu Traditional Prime Minister, Thulasizwe Buthelezi, and a new deputy, Chief Phathisizwe Chiliza.
