A recent study conducted with more than 500,000 South Koreans has found that cases of Alopecia Areata have significantly increased after Covid-19.

Nyati explains that Alopecia Areata, which is also known as spot baldness, is a condition where a someone loses patches of hair, particularly on their scalp.

According to the study, "the incidence of the autoimmune form of hair loss was 82% higher for individuals with versus those without a prior Covid infection."

Although Alopecia Areata does not pose any physical health problems, it may be an aesthetic concern for some individuals, says Nyati.

"Covid has shown the medical profession flames. It is teaching us new things that we never got to know about at medical school or post-qualification. We still don't have answers to questions."
