CAPE TOWN - Firefighters in the Cape Winelands district municipality are still battling a blaze just before the Bainskloof pass.

Officials said while the fire is situated high on the mountain, above the Calabash Bush Pub, the fire line is still spreading.

There are currently 124 personnel involved in efforts to douse the fire, supported by three helicopters and 12 firefighting vehicles.

The municipality's fire and rescue spokesperson, Joanne Otto: "Although the pass is currently open to traffic, water bombing is causing a lot of smoke which may lead to the unexpected closure to traffic. Commuters are being urged to use alternative routes."
