DURBAN - Two suspected murderers were shot and killed during a shootout with police officers in KwaZulu-Natal.
It's understood that the pair had been sought for three murder cases - one dating back to 2021 and two others committed two weeks ago.
Officers said the alleged criminals opened fire after being stopped on Thursday night in Hillcrest, west of Durban.
Police said when the suspected criminals were identified, officers used blue lights, signalling for them to stop on the side of the road.
However, police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said officers were met with gunfire.
“The men of law were left with no other alternative but to return fire. Two suspects sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the scene. No police officer was injured during the shootout.”
Police also recovered two guns with 21 rounds of ammunition in the possession of the killed suspects.
