JOHANNESBURG - The widows of prominent South African men are banding together to share their lived experiences by putting up a mirror to ordinary women in the same boat as them.
In the new 10-part Showmax Original series, Widows Unveiled, the women will delve into the dark, deep and uncomfortable aspects of their widowhood while maintaining balanced lives.
Moreover, viewers can expect the women to lift the lid on topics that are often frowned upon in black society - while tracing the lives of five women who were married to deceased public figures.
Widows Unveiled will primer on February 12, followed by fresh weekly episodes that capture the drama and scandal that followed their spouses' deaths.
It also seeks to touch on each woman's path of suffering to finding balance and ultimate healing.
The cast includes PR specialist and marketing professional Lerato Sengadi, the widow of Motswako legend HHP; entrepreneur, award-winning philanthropist, executive producer of Nkalakatha: The Life of Mandoza and stroke survivor Mpho Tshabalala - the widow of musician Mandoza.
It also includes broadcaster and philanthropist Sikelelwa Ngubane, the widow of actor Menzi Ngubane; businesswoman Fundiswa Molefe, the widow of businessman John Molefe; and businesswoman Lerato Maphatsoe, the widow of former Defence Minister Kebby Maphatsoe.
Asked why they chose to participate in the show, the cast said that they hoped to inspire other women in similar situations by sharing their realities.
